Contraction of northern northwest in a house increases the vacant space in northwest, when compared to northeast, which is a bad feature as per the tenets of Vaasthu. It is always advisable to go in for a site which is either a square or a rectangle in shape.
A spacious site makes the inhabitant rich provided that itisa perfect square or a rectangle. It should not be contracted in any direction. It is advisable to acquire an additional site located towards the east or north of the existing house.
Any amount of investment for acquiring a plot situated towards the northeastern part of the. The topography of the plot reflects on the life of the inhabitant.
Slope towards north or east showers bountiful blessings on the inhabitant. Similarly elevation in Jand in the westem and in southem parts of the site makes the life a prosperous one. People residing in such sites do achieve greater things. It is always better to select a spacious plot so as to facilitate construction of as many rooms as one can do. A plot located at the confluence of two roads leading to east and north, straight without turns, respectively makes the life of the resident a pleasant one.
However any deliberate attempt to adjust the house as per compass, leads to directional dead-lock, because it results in extension of southe.. Hence if as However, a plot lying by the side of a road leading onincreasing northeast, is said to lead the destiny of the occupant for a brighter tomorrow. The prosperity and progress in the life of the resident of a plot is directly proportional to the elevation in the western and southern parts of the plot.
One should never selecta triangular site. Just as it is difficult to change the properties of the soil, it is also difficult to change the properties of a site or a plot as one can't change a silk into cotton or vice versa. For instance, the existence of a high hillock in north or east; or the location of a tank or a river in west or south cannot be rectified.
Similarly, one cannot change the direction of a road, which cuts across the northeastern tip of a plot. Never select a site which protrudes towards northwest, southwest or southeast. If the vacant portion in a site is more towards south or west than towards north or east, it is advisable to separate the excess portion by means of a small wall or fence and a shed may be constructed in it, or the same may be disposed off.
If the road leading from your plot takes you towards east, north or northeast, itis said tobe very auspicious. If that road leads you towards southeast or southwest it brings misfortunes to you.
Never think of procuring a site which slopes towards southwest. Ensure that the rain water or sewage water of neighbouring plots does not flow into your site frorn eastern or northeastern direction. People living in such houses cannot have even normal peaceful life.
In the same way a small error crept in the selection of the site or the construction of a house will lead to many troubles in future. So also the contraction or projection of directions, if not considered first, will end in chaos.
In chess the looser will be a single person. To get best of thern, the following points may be borne in mind. If it is more elevated than the present site, it should not be purchased. If the street trust to the present house is from northern northeast, then after purchasing the eastern plot, it will change into northern northwest. Hence it must be avoided. If the present house faces the southern southeast focus, after the acquisition of eastern site, it will turn into a debilitated focus from southern southwest.
This will mar the tenets of Vaasthu ; as such it should not be acquired. Cellars are construtced in east and north in apartments or shopping complex ; leading the south and west elevated in resulting a best favour of Vaasthu. Eastern blocks : The sites, having road only on the eastern side, in between the northeastern and southeast em blocks.
There may be as many sites as can be. Southeastern blocks : The sites having roads in east and south. Southern blocks : The sites, having road only on the southern side, in between the southeastem and southwestern blocks.
Number of such sites is not restricted. Southwestern blocks : The sites having roads in south and west. Western blocks : The sites, having road only on the westem side, in between the southwestern and northwestern blocks.
Such sites may be many in number. Northwestern blocks : The sites having roads in north and west. Northern blocks : The sites, having road only on the northern side, situated between the northwestern and northeastern blocks. There is no restriction in number. Northeastern blocks : The sites having roads in north as well as in east. Sites possessing roads in east, west and northern directions are also considered as first grade sites, provided the road in the westem side is more elevated than those in east and north.
Further if a spacious site protrudes into the street in northern northeast or eastern northeast such a site is also treated as a first grade site. Similarly sites belonging to northeastern block which possess roads in east and north, northwest block being your own and the road. The blocks with wide roads on north and east and with increased northeast protruded into street, are also treated as first grade sites. However if the streets located to its east and north are more elevated than the site, sucha site would not be rated as afirst grade site.
Jf the eastern road is more elevated than the site, the main. If the northern road is high, the main entrance of the house may be fixed towards east. Ifthe main entrance has to be fixed as per the compass, only towards the road, which is more elevated than the site itself, the only solution left out would be to elevate the entire site more than the road.
Sites possessing roads in north and south, with northern road Jess elevated than the southern road; Sites having road in eastern side which is less elevated than the site and there are multistoried buildings in west and south; Sites having road in northern side which is less elevated than the site and there are multistoried buildings in west and south; Sites having roads only in north, south and eastern sides and the eastern or northern road is more elevated than the site; Sites having the western road more elevated than those in north and east; Sites having roads on three sidesand the roadsineast and north are more elevated than the site; Sites having roads in east, north and west and the western road is less elevated than the plot; Sites having roads in east, north and south with the southern xoad less elevated than the site; All are treated as second grage sites.
Further sites possessing roads in east and south, in such a way, that the eastem road joins the southern road and, the eastern road is less elevated ihan the site, such sites are also treated as third grade sites. Sites having roads in northand south and, the southern road is less elevated than the site and there are high structures in east, and vacant land in west, such sites are treated as third grade sites.
Sites having roads only in west are also treated as third grade sites. Sites having roads in west and south which are iess elevated than the site and either east or north road is more elevated than the site, such sites are treated as fourth grade sites. Further, sites having road only in south which is less elevated thanthe plot and there is no vacant space either in east or north, such sifes are treated as fourth grade sites. Certain third grade sites may yield the results of second grade sites.
In order to find out the reason for such practical problems, a comprehensive study of the entire block and topography would be essential. The sun, the stars and several other planets like the earth and the moon are revolving and rotating in this ethereal space in their respective orbits, due to their own and other governing gravitational forces. Sun is a star closure to the earth and emits light and heat for the human and other living beings, whereby we are abie to live and feel the presence and direction of the objects.
When we face the rising sun, the facing direction is termed as East, behind us would be West, towards our left would be North and towards our right would be South: the four cardinal directions. Apart from the four cardinal directions there are four intermediate directions or corners. An intermediate direction is formed when two directions converge and make an angle.
Hence the intermediate directions have more specialities than the cardinal directions. Sighificance of Eight Directions : As per the science of Vaasthu all the eight directions have their own respeciive influences on the human beings.
If the vacant space in east is covered completely the house will become maleless property i. If it is not kept vacant the house will become a desert due to female mortality and remains as a house without a female member. In case the northeast is cut off there can be no male children in the family, even though abundent wealth prevails.
Hence each intermediate direction is again subdivided into two parts. The ideal shape of a plot or site is a square or a rectangle possessing four sides viz. Every side has two directions. In order to facilitate proper identification of intermediate directions each lateral side has been divided, into nine equal parts.
The earth and other planets are rotating around the Sun. So the oriental scientists of Vaastu have evolved a formula to divide the sides of a plot into 9 parts in the concesus with nine planets. The other formula such as dividing the side into 3 or 4 parts are not so better than this formula. Thus it is useful to point out the place of the construction, a bit more precisely, than any other.
Two terminal parts of the eastern lateral side towards north make eastern northeast. Two terminal parts of the eastern lateral side towards south make eastern southeast, and the remaining five parts are to be construed as eastern portion.
Two terminal parts of the southern lateral side towards east make southern southeast, two terminal parts of the southern lateral side towards west make southern southwest and the remaining five parts are to be construed as southern portion. Twoterminal parts of the western lateral side towards south make western southwest, two terminal parts of the western lateral side towards north make western northwest and the remaining five parts are to be construed as western portion.
Northeast : Northeast is composed of four parts viz; two parts of the northern lateral side called northern northeast and two parts of the eastern lateral side called eastern northeast. Northwest : Northwest is composed of four parts viz; two parts of the northern lateral side called northern northwest and two parts of the western lateral side called the western northwest.
Southwest : Southwest is composed of four parts viz; two parts of the southern lateral side called southern southwest and two parts of the westem lateral side called western southwest. Thus various directions and intermediate directions are to be identified and ensured at perfect angles, right from the stage of excavation of foundation till the stage of laying roof, in order to reap the best results of the science of Vaasthu. It is always auspicious to know this, before the doors are fixed.
In any plot the horizontal intersection of the eastern lateral side decides exalted and exiguous positions. The northem half becomes the exalted portion and the southern half would become the exiguous position. Similarly vertical intersection of the southern lateral side also decides exalted and exiguous positions.
The eastern half becomes the exalted position while the western half becomes the exiguous position. Likewise horizontal intersection of the westem lateral side too decides the exalted and exiguous position. Lastly vertical intersection of northern lateral side also decides exalted and exiguous positions. The eastern half would be the exalted position and the western half would be the exiguous position. Eastern Southeast : Exiguous position. Leads to bad consequences.
Southern Southeast : Exalted position. Yeilds general auspicious results, Southern Southwest : Exiguous position. Results in financial troubles and ill health to female members of the family. Western Southwest : Exiguous position.
Causes financial losses and deteriorates the position of the male head of the family. Western Northwest : Exalted position. Gives very favourable and auspicious results. Northern Northwest : Exiguous position.
Causes fickle mindedness. Northern Northeast : Exalted position. Brings in windfall gains. Such an arrangement paves way for northward movement and results in good fortunes. If the main entrance is fixed in southern exalted position the furniture and other heavy fixtures would be placed towards west. As such east becomes light and gives favourable effects. If the niain entrance is arranged in western exalted place , heavy items or the furniture would be placed toward south and the north becomes light.
Such a phenomenon yields good results. If the main entrance is placed in northern exalted place heavier objects are kept in western part, making the east comparatively lighter. Such a situation augurs well. Above description gives general principles governing the fixation of doorways. The effects of placing doorways in various exalted positions vary basing on the topographical characterstics of the house.
Hence correct assessment can be made only by physical inspection of the house and its surroundings by an expert on Vaasthu. This is admitted, because it augurs well. However, projections to the houses facing east and north should be slant in shape or lower than the roof level and in no case they should be higher than the roof level. The projections- should emanate below the roof level. This will augur well and attract riches. For the sake of spaciousness, people make slanting projections on any three sides of the house.
They should be in north, east and south or in east, north and west directions. Instead of that if the projections, are made towards east and south it will cause ill health to the women folk ; while projectionsin north and west will spoil the health of the male.
If the projections are in west and south then the health of men and women of that house will be doomed. If a house possesses a slanting projection in west, it should invariably possess a similar projection in east.
Similarly if a house possesses a slanting projection in south, it should invariably possess a similar projection in north. Same principle is applicable in respect of straight projections also. If the projections slope towards east as well as north, they will take care of the health of both the male as well as the female inhabitants. Street trust in Eastern Northeast - Favourable. Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad, is one of the richest temples in south India, faces east and enjoys the patronage of millions of devotees due to the street focus in eastern northeast.

This is one of the best features of Vasthu of this temple. Street thrust in the Southern Southwest - Unfavourable. Street focus in southern southwest is considered unfavourable as it causes death. Premier Studio at Mysore in Karnataka established on 14 acres of land has a street focus in southern southwest. The studio witnessed the worst fire accident in cinema history on 9th February when the teleserial Tippu Sultan was being shot, and resulted in the death of nearly 29 people on the spot, and 21 persons in hospital.
The cause of the disaster is street focusin southern southwest. Street thrust in Western Southwest : Unfavourable. Eg : A famous philanthropist, charitable person Shri Budda Vengal Reddy of Vuyyalawada in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh was awarded a gold medal by Queen Victoria in for his yeomen service and charity gesture to the famine hit victims of Andhra Pradesh in that year. He was specially invited alongwith native princes of India for the coronation ceremony of George VI. He was also given an authority letter to travel free of charge in Royal Railways.
Many folk songs are in vogue about Budda Vengal Reddy's yeoman service and charity. Asample: West ward in Vuyyalawada. Prevails the Virtuousness! Budda Vengala Reddy there abides The only donor on the Earth. Verily, Reddy thought it inhumane Cow and calf so gave him, all alone.
Such and other folk songs, in praise of Reddy's name and fame can be heard in trains and buses in Rayalaseema, as his virtues enthrobs their hearts with gratitude. But such a noble man died issueless inspite of having two wives, only due to the street focus in northern northwest to his house.
Though he lived long as a great doner, he, at the end, suffered with wantenness. However the reason for his opulence and fame is that there are four streets in four directions of his house.
The Science of Vaasthu says that the various directions yield riches, fame, power, health and longevity, respectively, in their order, but the northern northwest focus prevailed above them all. The habitat of Mother Theresa in Calcutta and palace of the Maharaja of Mysore, possess streets on all the four sides and, have become world famous. Street trust in Northern Northeast - favourable.

People should exercise care and caution in selecting plots in a layout, so that ill effects of street focus can be avoided and can be obtained favourable street focus.
All of the houses, on both sides, are not built at a time. Some one constructs his house first in the lane.
Later on, other people, due to some or the other reason, construct their houses a bit back ward ; making the first one projected into the street. Such a phenomenon subjects such houses to street focus from both the sides.
Sometimes the street focus proves to be very beneficial while sometimes it leads to catastrophy. The good and ill effects of street focus in various direc- tions are discussed below : 1. Ifahouse facing east projects into the street, it attracts street trust in northern northeast and southern south-east. This is a good feature. This is a most dangerous feature. If a house facing west projects into the street, it attracts street thrust in northern northwest and in southern- southwest. This is also a very dangerous feature.
If a house facing north project into the street, it attracts street focus in eastern northeast and in western- northwest. This is a very benificent feature. From the above discussion, it becomes clear, that the houses facing north and east, be constructed in such a manner, so that they can project into the streets slightly, when compared to the other houses, so as to gain the positive effects of street focus.
The effect of favourable street focus can be experienced on the financial plane, physical health and social status of the inhabitant. It must be however remembered that the street focus acts in the above cases as a positive catalyser only when other features of the house are in conformity with the science of Vaasthu.
Under no circumstances the houses facing west or south should project into the street. Hence such, construction must be avoided, iest it will lead to dire consequences. A plot located at the confluence of two roads, is better, than the one, located by the side of a single road. Similarly, a plot located at the confluence of three roads, is better than the one located at the confluence of two roads.
Same analogy applies in case of a plot located at the confluence of four roads and it is considered to be the best. If the road leads the inhabitant towards eastern southeast, the construction of a house in that plot doesnot bear fruit ful results. If it is done as per Vaasthu, it may angur well to some extent.
One must select aplot possessing roads leading towards northeast, east or north. Such a movement leads the inhabitants towardsa precious future. The science of Vaasthu prescribes that the roads must be spacious and full of traffic.
This is the site with the road ineast. A gatein eastern northeast or in the exalted east should be provided in compound wall, to the house built in this site.
When a house is built in this type of site a gatein the compound wall be placed in southem southeast or in exalted south. There are two roads to this site in the east and the west. But a gate must be provided in eastern northeast quite opposite to the gate in western northwest. Instead when the gate is provided in exalted east the movements will be through southeast and northwest which will augur evil. When a house is constructed in the site having roads in north and south, the gates must be put in the compound wall, in northern northeast, exalted north, southern south east and exalted south.
For this house the gates be provided in eastern northeast, exalted east, western northwest and exalted west; or in eastern northeast and southern southeast. Under any circumstances the gates be provided inwestand south, but quite opposite to the gate in western north west, a gate must be provided in eastern northeast. Instead, if it is put gate in exalted in east, their will be exiguous movements through southeast and northwest.
Thereare three roads in east, north and south to this site. Quite infornt of the gate in southern southeast, a gate in northern northeast must be provided. Instead, if it is put in gate in exalted north, the movements through southeast and northwest will become disasterous. But a gate in eastern northeast must be provided, quite apposite to the gate in westem northwest.
Instead, if it is put in exalted east, the southeastern and northwestern movements will augur evil. Gates in west and south. In front of the gate in southern southeast, a gate in northern northeast also must be, provided; lest the movements thro southeast and northwest will lead to disaster, due to the gate in exalted north. This isa gracious sitehaving " Magee ate fee oo fetes The entrance for the cellar must be placed in exalted position in east i.
An entrance in westem northwest, or southern southeast can be provided to business or other type of cellars, thro, hollow stairs; or thro' north or east with the help of steep stairs only touching the land below. The same canbe arranged in southern southeast or northem northwest with or without touching Land. There should be an equal open space in southeast and northwest neither more nor less.
The space in southwest should be less than the space in southeast and north west. Except the street focus in northeast all other that is from southeast, southwest or northwest, in angular form, are vicious.
The gates and well can be provided as shown in the plans. The construction of house should be started from southwest. In such circumstances extension or diminution of one or more intermediate directions can be noticed, and it influences the fixation of main door in the following manner.
Note : Thick line indicates a plot increased inclined towards a particular intermediate direction, by 10 degrees or more. Thinner line indicates a plot set as per compass. Street extending eastern northeast: In this case the entrance provided in eastern northeast faces eastern south-east due to the inclination or extention of the plot by 10 degrees or more.
Hence another entrance must be placed in northern northeast to rectify the above defect. Thisis a good feature as per Vaasthu, as it is better than the door facing northern north east.
Street extending southern- southeast ; In this case the entrance provided in southern- southeast, actually faces southern southwest, due to ROAD the inclination or extention Poo of the plot by 10 degrees or more.
In order to rectify this defect another entrance must be placed in northern northeast. In order to rectify this defect another entrance must be ROAD provided in eastern northeast. Street extending western- southwest : In this case the entrance erected in western- northwest, actually faces northern northwest due to the inclination or extention of the plot by 10 degrees or more. In order to rectify this defect, another entrance must be placed in northern northeast.
Street extending northern- northwest : In this case the entrance provided innorthem- northeast, actually faces northern northeast, which is a positive feature as per Vaasthu.
ROAD 6. Street extending western- northwest : In this case the entrance provided in western- northwest, actually faces western southwest as the plot is inclined or extended 10 degrees or more towards western northwest. In order to rectify this defect, another entrance must be provided in eastern northeast. ROAD w E 8. Street extending northern- northeast : entrance provided in northern- northeast due to the inclination or extention of plot by 10 degrees or more, northwest.
In order to rectify this In this case the actually faces northern defect another entrance must be Ss provided in eastern northeast. A house tocated by the side of aroad extending eastern northeast, also possesses an extended eastern northeast. The gate erected in the compound wall, running on eastern side actually faces eastern southeast.
Hence the gate must be fixed, in such a way, that the gate should measure equally on its both sides from the house, as shown in the picture above. Then it will face east and reap good results of Vaasthu. The gate erected in the compound wall, running on northem side, actually faces northern northwest.. Hence the gate must be fixed, in such a way, that it actually faces north, being measured equally on both sides.
In such a case, that portion of the site, which receives a street focus, must be separated and sold away. In case it is not possible to do so it must be separated from the main plot, by constructing a compound wall, and a room therein, as shown in the plan above, must be constructed and disposed off. Albeit the effect of street focus to the original site, which is baneful, the separation of that part and construction of a shop, turns it intoa beneficial one to the purchaser, as it would become a street focus in east for the shop.
In case the owner builds first floor, the same may be done on the seperated room, toc. This will ward off the evil which effected in the beginning. Above procedure must be adopted in avoiding a baneful street focus in southern southwest, western southwest, and northern northwest.
The wall will stand like a sign board, warding off the evil effects of street thrust. In this world from a yeoman to a noble. Vaasthu is the science of construction of a house. Street in Auckland, which is the pivot of the entire business activity and is an important centre for banking, import and export, trade in gola, gems and diamonds etc. The street runs downwards from south to north and its length is about two Kilometers. Sea is located at the northem end of the road. Further the road also slopes from west to east. Recently had bought an old house in Madras, and entered the same after effecting alterations from the view point of Vaasthu, as suggested by Shri Gouru Tirupathi Reddy.
Initially when we visited the house Shri Reddy had remarked, that the resident or owner of the house would not possess male issues. Shri Reddy added, that diminution of northeast and extension of southeast are responsible for the absence of male issues, and said that those defects can be rectified. I was a staunch theist, as my father was also a follower of Gora ; and had been the member of Communist party till The house was closed in northeast.

When I had the things and happennings true to the fact, 1 became a staunch believer of Vaasthu. Why not I? We were getting on well in our ancestral house, facing east with the main entrance in the north; southwest cut off, built on western end, with open space in the east and the north.
Then the whole village was under the control of my father. The tables have been completely turned and he met with a sad demise with paralysis, after a long struggle and court litigations, and my brother became handicapped within 3 years of purchasing an add-yard in southeast to our old house.
