I don't want to interfere with SoulAsylum's troubleshooting, but if you use a free utility from Microsoft Sysinternals called Process Explorer it can give you additional information that isn't available with the built-in Windows Task Manager. For example, when Process Explorer launches it can be configured to upload every process running on your computer to VirusTotal. Any suspicious or malicious process running on your system should have a poor score e.
If you want to add additional columns to the Process Explorer interface e. Click through all the tabs e. Be sure you also check the applications that start automatically when you log in to your computer at Settings Apps Startup. Each application is rated high, medium or low according to the impact it has on system resources.
However, I still have a few programs that I want to keep but don't use on a regular basis e. If you right-click in the column headings you will see a list of additional columns e. If you aren't sure what Startup programs are safe to disable post a screenshot for SoulAsylum and they might be able to provide a few suggestions. I found few free office, open office and libre office. I am not sure if they are safe and the download site is safe! I live in Canada and found this product on sale at Amazon. I haven't tried OpenOffice or LibeOffice so I can't speak from personal experience, but I investigated a few free Office suites and thought LibreOffice was the better choice for me. Not every installed program is listed for example, the load time for my Malwarebytes Premium anti-malware isn't on that list of startup programs but the "CPU at Startup" column does show that my Waves MaxxAudio application and the Epson software that manages the wireless connection to my Epson printer have a relatively high impact on my startup time.
For a deeper dive of your startup processes, Microsoft Systinternal's Autoruns utility shows nearly everything that loads automatically on your computer, including programs, services, automated tasks, etc. If you click on the Options menu of this tool you can hide Windows and Microsoft entries to reduce the clutter in the interface.
